Abstract
Land degradation and the decline of vegetation cover in rural areas represent a critical global issue demanding sustainable res-toration interventions. The Community Service Program (KUKERTA) Group 19 investigated the effectiveness of a participatory approach integrating ecological restoration with economic incentives in Karangnunggal Village, Banten. Through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework, 150 commercial tree seedlings (Falcataria moluccana and Ochroma pyramidale) were dis-tributed. To address the shortcomings of conventional communal planting methods, this intervention utilized a decentralized (door-to-door) distribution scheme to 56 families. Facing an extreme dry season anomaly, climate adaptation tactics were imple-mented by delaying open-field transplantation and establishing temporary nurseries in residents' yards. Data from participatory observations and semi-structured interviews were analyzed using Thematic Analysis procedures. Results indicate that the door-to-door scheme significantly shifted communal apathy into a sense of belonging and personal ownership. The selection of economically valuable species effectively bridged conservation urgency with the residents' economic rationality. Theoretically, this study contributes to the Community-Based Forest Management (CBFM) literature by demonstrating that the spatial de-centralization of tree management rights strengthens the resilience of rural land rehabilitation programs.
