Abstract: This study aimed to grow the students curiosity toward the concept of learning by using media abacus. The problems in this research were the student curiosity in understanding the concept of learning need to be grown, students number counting skill need to be improved, limitations of the learning media owned by the students, the need to foster student understanding toward mathematical concepts, teachers were still rarely use the media in the learning process, difficulty getting instructional media for this so necessary concrete objects as learning media of students. Researcher tried to address these problems by presenting a concrete learning media through the utilization of the natural resources around which " rubber seed ", the rubber seeds made into a media abacus. The results of this study were the result of increasing the learning process is shown by the results of the growth of the curiosity of students to the concept with an average of the first siclus 70,44. The result test of the first cycle 65,27 and the result test of the two siclus 83,05. Based learning environment that has a major contribution to the curiosity of students to the concept of the two siclus 81,73. Therefore, researcher suggest the teachers to use the media in any learning environment.
Keywords: curiosity, understanding concepts, learning using abacus media.
